Peacenik Garofalo Upset at Harassment, May Quit Protesting
Appeasement activist Janeane Garofalo says she might quit protesting U.S. policy on Iraq because she's being harassed, and she complains that Hollywood leftists who speak out don't get enough respect.
Addressing a panel on media coverage of the war in Manhattan, the comedian-turned-foreign-policy-expert said Monday that she might "just bow out for the rest of [her] life," according to New York's Newsday. Garofalo complained that she's had to change her home phone number after getting several harassing calls.
The bespectacled Bush basher blames the media, which she said ridicules anti-war actors "as a way to trivialize" the appeasement movement. (Garofalo herself, however, admitted two weeks ago that the appeasement movement stayed dormant during U.S. troop deployments in the 1990s because "it wasn't hip" to protest Bill Clinton.)
Fellow panelist William McGowan, author of "Coloring the News: How Political Correctness Has Corrupted American Journalism," disagreed. He said appeasement activists were belittled because of their "silly, vacuous slogans."
